I checked in the archives to see what had been talked of in the past... but the last thread on this was two years ago so maybe there are some different opinions...
I am looking into hosting reseller accounts- I set up so many websites for people and although I get the commission of the sale through an affiliate program, i realized I'm actually missing out on what could be nice extra yearly income.
So... any experiences? Who would you recommend? Who would you avoid?
THanks

There's mosso.com, which offers good billing intergration and support option, versatile platform.
mediatemple.com can be cost effective for some.
Amazon EC2 - www.amazon.com/gp/browse.html
Should be interesting - might be worth it to peek around to see which hosts are using it, since the price point should be lower and distributed grid capabilities offer more flexibility and less downtime, that all adds up to higher profits and happier customers.

I meant "integration". grrrr.
How many sites would you expect to host?

Re: Reseller Hosting Services?
Tue, April 1, 2008 - 4:20 PMseveral of the hosting providers we were talking about on ms. dynomite's recent thread about web hosting
web-design.tribe.net/thread/...3d776263
are companies that offer reseller services
so there are some thoughts for sure.
one thing hostgator.com and westnic.net have in common is the cpanel interface, a proprietary software that runs on LAMP servers and I have had a very positive experience with that interface, it is intuitive and comes with easy-to-install extras like wordpress, oscommerce, joomla and others you have heard of.
other people probably have their own personal faves.
even starting small, rates are competitive, so you'll have to sign up several clients before you make much of a profit on reseller hosting, but it can be a convenient side business (until your server crashes, and it seems like it will eventually no matter who you go with!) that will at least hopefully cover your own hosting expenses; plus the extra bond with clients could help them remember how helpful you are, when it comes time for them to need a website update. and if you can get enough clients to make it work well, you could bring in some extra spending money which is always welcome!
have fun with that! let us know who you go with. -

Re: Reseller Hosting Services?
Tue, April 1, 2008 - 8:59 PMThanks. I've been checking out hostrocket.com which has some good possibilities. Also, I agree in regards to the cpanel bit. it is handy and people like it. For myself, i have a fairly larger personal website so I plan on moving that to the same reseller account which will cut the actual cost of it in half almost. This is good news cause the ROI is much quicker. Most of the people i work with always just have me updating their sites regularly and signing them up for hosting- people like to have their hands held through those difficult and scary internets. but, at this point, i know I could even convince all the people i've signed up with service to switch over so, although it will take some time and effort, it will, in the end be worth it... no to just find the right host.... -

This reseller program is everything you need.
Sat, April 5, 2008 - 6:47 AMI use a reseller program run by Reseller Panel (www.resellerspanel.com/ .
I've been using their services for five years and never had a bad thing to say about them.
Here's a short rundown of their best features:
- 100% integrated into your own website design
- OR - you can use one of their many prebuilt stores which take all of a couple minutes to set up and can be customized with your own headers, navigation and footers.
- The best customer support I've found with any company (In five years I've never waited for more than an hour for an email response)
- 100% branded in your company name (including all emails, billing, client admin areas, etc).
- full control over pricing
- full control over your client's account
- billing can be through your own processor or let reseller panel do it for you.
I work with dozens of resellers and affiliates for various products and services. By far Reseller Panel has been my best experience.
You can see how I use it for my site here (www.bluegelmedia.com/hosting.htm) but to be sure it can be done better than this. -

Sun, April 6, 2008 - 8:17 PMThat is all some really intersting stuff Abasin. Thanks. They definitely have good pricing and good stuff that they offer. I just wonder how they can keep their pricing so LOW. So i think i'll do a little more research into them... Thanks. -

Re: Reseller Hosting Services?
Mon, May 26, 2008 - 3:49 PMI'm a GoDaddy reseller, and the reason I signed up for it was simple. Not to make big bucks, but in order that I could more efficiently get clients signed up for domain names, hosting, email, SSL certs, etc. It got to be the hugest pain in the butt to have to maneuver through countless control panels from different hosts. Everyone puts the tools and options in a different place, some call it one thing and others call it another. I'd spend 20 minutes trying to figure out how to forward a URL, or create a subdomain. I offer it as a convenience to both them (because I can now more effectively help manage their site and answer questions) and for myself (it's easier to go to the same place every time!). That said, I have made a few hundred bucks, that would have otherwise gone to someone else. So I'm happy with it.
I know GoDaddy is not always popular, but I personally have never had a problem with their service and their customer reps are available 24 hours a day (unlike some other hosts I've dealt with!). So I can tell my client, "Oh yes, of course I can set up your hosting or email to do such-and-such --- while in the back of my mind I'm thinking 'yikes!' -- I just call the 888 number on my hosting site and the customer reps walk me through it." lol. -

Re: Reseller Hosting Services?
Fri, June 13, 2008 - 12:02 PMSince i know you were thinking, "damn, i wonder what he did use...."
well, i went with hostgator.com. ultimately, i'm mostly just setting up accounts for clients and this gives me a good centralized system of doing so. Hostgator gets great reviews, has a clean easy to use interface and they've been super helpful (Although the start was a bit rocky) and they have everything i need as well as an auto-billing system, full-integration, etc.
resellerpanel.com just looked, well, sketchy and the more I dug the more I couldn't find the exact answers i was looking for and the more questions i would have.
godaddy.com, well, hurts my eyes to look at.
mosso/mediatemple/dreamhost - more than i wanted to spend or something else that didn't satisfy me. i'm not setting up ginormous websites
so there ya have it...
