Hi all,
I am looking for some straight info for installing/implementing an RSS news aggregator on my client's site.
They are a law firm, and would like to display recent headlines, and a few lines of the stories on law related news.
I did look into this, and the available information is confusing
mostly the google results point me to paid subscription services to accomplish this.
I was hoping one of you had some experience with a similar task and could provide some good directions/advice
Thanks,
Jake

Re: RSS News aggregator
Tue, October 13, 2009 - 2:44 PMhey Jake,
The problem with news headlines/articles is that it's copyrighted, proprietary content, so getting away from a paid subscription service might be problematic, especially for specialty content like law news. I know you can get free news feeds for your website via Reuters but while they do offer a politics feed, law-specific news is not one of the categories they offer for free:

If you do end up finding one, I'd be interested in hearing about it!

Re: RSS News aggregator
Tue, October 13, 2009 - 9:53 PMYou guys should try out Mochila
www.mochila.com
They aggregate news feeds and you can create content channels(based on search or static) for embedding.
Its free, plus you'll get a share of ad revenue.
You'll prolly want to create a few channels and have them click-thru to a template page where the content gets displayed.
If you need ad-free RSS content, they provide that too, but only for really large websites as a paid service.
But Im skeptical if you'll find good law-specific news there. I'd suggest getting feeds from law related publication websites, and just building a simple flex/other widget to read/display them. -

Re: RSS News aggregator
Fri, October 23, 2009 - 1:12 PMhey rax, thanks for the recommendation. Mochilla looks like a nice service; but in order to use it you have to sign up for an account. Applications have to be manually reviewed by Mochilla's staff. I applied a week ago and haven't heard back yet!
I assume my application was rejected because my site doesn't get enough traffic. If that's the case, then Mochilla's service might not be real helpful for start-ups and small sites. Was a nice idea though!
