Anyone here use *nix primarily? Im just curious to know the interesting ways to do web design from a different OS.
For me, I have been using Kubuntu since Jan of 07. I run VMWare when I need to run programs that cannot be run on linux under wine or crossover.

Sun, June 15, 2008 - 12:14 PMI just use a text editor, so it doesn't matter what OS I have. My favorite OS is Kubuntu though.

Yeah, VMWare is a lifesaver, regardless of which OS you do client side work in.
Personally, all my dev/production stuff is either Windows or Mac OS X. I have hosting clients and servers using *nix, Windows/IIS, and Windows/PHP or WAMP, so all I want is maximum flexibility on the dev/prod side to do *what* I need, *when* I need it done for myself or clients.
What's really the ultimate safety-check and benefit I find is being able to have copies of the hosting environments in VMWare for dev and test!

Sun, June 15, 2008 - 6:00 PMYeah. As of now, I have to use IE7 in VMWare only because I cannot find any othe way to test my sites in IE7. When I had Feisty Fawn, I was able to operate IE7 in wine (through ies4linux) but somehow, it doesnt work so well when I upgraded my distro to Hardy. -

I actually work on a mac. But for all of my programming I use the vim editor in a unix window. You can do wonders with vim if you learn how to use it. :-)
